Hatred is raging in Tehran; the regime is mobilizing millions of supporters, and the streets and squares are teeming like black anthills. Will they be enough to carry this impoverished, crumbling, parched country through the coming years? Even the German news outlet Spiegel Online is entirely devoted to hatred the days: hatred of Donald Trump. They’re actually making me find the man likable. He seems almost innocent and decent amid all the vitriol. A questionable decision by the World Football Federation provides the pretext, but it could just as easily be something else. This hatred does little to solve their own problems, neither in Iran nor in Germany. Yet it unites and inspires the downtrodden, which is why it’s perceived as a virtue—here and there.

Werden sie ausreichen, das verarmte, zerfallende, austrocknende Land durch die nächsten Jahre zu bringen? Auch das deutsche Medium Spiegel Online ist heute ganz dem Hass gewidmet: dem Hass auf Donald Trump. Sie machen mir den Mann noch glatt sympathisch. Er wirkt fast arglos und aufrecht neben all dem Gegeifer. Eine fragwürdige Entscheidung des Welt-Fussballbundes gibt den Anlass, aber es könnte auch gut ein anderer sein. Das Wichtigste ist der Hass. Zur Lösung der eigenen Probleme trägt er wenig bei, weder im Iran noch in Deutschland. Doch er vereint und begeistert die Niedergeschlagenen, deshalb wird er als Tugend empfunden - hier wie dort.
