Dr. A.T., a reader of this blog, wrote regarding the frenzy of applause in Venice (and I like his observation that Israel-hatred is the new "religion" of the European left): "The cultural scene’s hatred of Israel has long since taken on the characteristics of a cult—something clearly expressed in these moments of applause. Swept up in the emotion, the cultural mob claps itself into an ecstatic, pogrom-like frenzy. One ought to confront these people openly and directly with what they are and what they represent. While the phenomenon must be taken seriously, it can likely only be countered with sarcasm. Naturally, the media notice nothing amiss as they report on these events with satisfaction—but then again, the very same people who make up that applauding audience are the ones sitting in the media. The content itself is neither spectacular nor particularly relevant; the sole aim is to trigger the emotional chain reaction of hatred toward Israel. In any case, such displays are cultic events in which a new religion of antisemitism is celebrated."

More important ist the new cooperation between Israel and Morocco in the military sector. „Israel and Morocco are redrawing the strategic map of North Africa“ headlines Yediot Achronot in an article that examines the new relations: „The agreement to upgrade to full embassies is far more than a diplomatic formality; as Morocco deepens its defense co-production with Israel.“

I am now drawing to a close in order to prepare for Shabbat. We are reading the Torah portion "Ha'azinu"—that wonderful poem at the end of the Mosaic Books. It is filled with surprising metaphors. And it provides astonishing proof that, from a Jewish perspective, God can't be male. For Deuteronomy 32:19 states "tishkach El mechlelecha"—"You have forgotten the God who gave birth to you." Shabat shalom to everyone.

Dr. A.T., ein Leser dieses Blogs, schrieb über den Applaus-Exzess von Venedig: Der Israelhass der Kulturszene hat längst kultische Züge angenommen, was in solchen Applaudierzeiten deutlich zum Ausdruck kommt. Ergriffen klatscht sich der Kulturmob in ekstatische Pogromlaune. Man sollte diese Leute stets offen und unverstellt damit konfrontieren, was sie sind und darstellen. Ernst nehmen muss man das Phänomen, begegnen kann man ihm wohl aber nur noch mit Sarkasmus. Den Medien fällt natürlich nichts auf, wenn sie mit Wohlbehagen darüber berichten, aber dort sitzen ja auch die gleichen Leute, die vor Ort das klatschende Publikum stellen. Der Inhalt ist dabei nicht einmal spektakulär und gar nicht sonderlich relevant, es geht nur darum, die Affektkette des Israelhasses in Gang zu setzen. Jedenfalls sind solche Auftritte kultische Ereignisse, in denen eine neue Religion des Antisemitismus zelebriert wird.

Wichtiger ist die neue Zusammenarbeit zwischen Israel und Marokko im militärischen Bereich. „Israel und Marokko zeichnen die strategische Landkarte Nordafrikas neu“, titelt Yediot Achronot einen Artikel, der die neuen Beziehungen beleuchtet: „Die Vereinbarung zur Aufwertung der diplomatischen Vertretungen zu vollwertigen Botschaften ist weit mehr als eine diplomatische Formalität, da Marokko die gemeinsame Rüstungsproduktion mit Israel ausbaut.“

Ich ziehe mich jetzt zurück, um mich auf den Schabbat vorzubereiten. Wir lesen den Tora-Abschnitt „Ha'asinu“ – jenes wunderbare Poem am Ende der Mosaischen Bücher. Es ist reich an überraschenden Metaphern.
